NIWO e-CMR accreditation

Road transport in the Benelux still leans on paper CMRs. A digital waybill only works as a real replacement if it carries the same legal weight.

We built the e-CMR flow — signatures, timestamps, an immutable audit trail — to meet NIWO’s accreditation requirements from day one, instead of retrofitting compliance later.

CargoLedger is officially NIWO-accredited for the digital consignment note in the Benelux — carriers can run fully paperless, legally valid trips today.

Open Logistics Foundation — open-source e-CMR

Electronic consignment notes existed, but every provider had its own variant. Without one interoperable standard, a digital CMR stops at the first party running different software — and the paper comes back out.

CargoLedger joined the Electronic Transport Documents working group of the Open Logistics Foundation, the non-profit that grew out of Fraunhofer IML. With Dachser and Rhenus as working group leads and members including DB Schenker, duisport, GS1 Germany, LKW Walter, Transporeon and fellow Dutch e-CMR specialists Aventeon and TransFollow, the group built, tested and validated a shared open-source implementation.

The OLF-eCMR was presented at transport logistic 2025 as the first industry-ready open-source e-CMR, free for any company to use. CargoLedger is now also a project member of the eDeliveryNote, which extends the same approach to the delivery note.

RESULD & Kenya corridor

Agri-export from Kenya to the EU passes through field, transporter and customs — each handoff its own paperwork: duplicate CMRs, manual customs forms, couriered proof-of-delivery.

As a formal RESULD consortium partner (9 partners spanning ports, universities and tech innovators), CargoLedger East Africa links eProd Solutions’s field data — plots, quality grades, verified farmer profiles — to the digital trip dossier, customs declaration and proof-of-delivery.

Up to 70% less back-office time on the corridor, with the first pilot linking avocado co-ops to EU buyers via the Port of Rotterdam gate targeted for Q3 2025.

PEPPOL / Ionite integration

Shippers exchange transport execution data as UBL waybills over the PEPPOL network — a different standard from the UN/CEFACT e-CMR that carriers need for the road leg.

Built and tested with Ionite, CargoLedger extended the PEPPOL four-corner model with the transporter as a fifth party, converting UBL 2.3 waybills straight into a UN/CEFACT e-CMR.

A live, standards-based bridge between the PEPPOL network and road transport — transport execution data flows straight through, with no manual re-keying.

Loadmaster, dock & returnable packaging

Returnable-packaging flows are hard to track, and packaging slips are often illegible, incomplete or lost. At peak times this creates queues at the dock, drivers wandering the floor looking for the loadmaster, and a flood of status calls to invoicing — made worse as volumes centralise into fewer sites.

A loadmaster app lets staff mark shipments ready, add photos and remarks, and scan loading, unloading and return moments. Drivers get a digital trip list, status updates flow inside and outside the company automatically, and returnable packaging becomes part of the e-CMR trip dossier instead of a separate paper process.

Fewer feet on the floor, shorter queues at the dock and less peak pressure on invoicing. The loadmaster keeps a real-time overview, drivers get a clear mobile flow, and returnable packaging finally lives inside the digital trip proof.
